Mathew Alec Costin
Biography
Matty grew up on an isolated farm in WA where he fell in love with books as his friends, and playtime through vivid imagination. Returning to his love of story in his 20s, Matt graduated from Armidale TAFE Film School, before training at The Actors Pulse in Sydney in the Meisner Technique from 2014-2017, where he underwent teacher training and has enjoyed the privilege of working with hundreds of growing actors.
Matty starred in multiple plays including Talking to Terrorists and short films before running away to the South Burnett in 2019. After a short and miserable hiatus, he returned to the stage in 2021, in Matilda Award nominated Against The Wall as musical genius papa Liam. He then produced, directed and acted in the role of Pete in his queer themed love story Suitcase at Nanango Playfest, with his standout performance well received. In 2022 Matty has graduated his first crop of passionate and courageous students from the Meisner Technique at The Actors Journey based in Woolloongabba, directing and also performing in their showcase. He also taught his 3-Day Meisner Intensive both in the rural heart of QLD and in Perth. Most recently Mathew has wrapped on directing his film Jack and the Deep Blue Sea, which explores gender dynamics in the 90s, and the profound impact of life and death moments. Matty has written multiple plays, TV pilots and a feature film in recent years, and plans to direct two more films in 2022, plus pitch his stories for production funding with the desire to move into production during 2023. Matty’s love for queer stories is a central pillar of his passion, along with stories depicting the faith-based exploration of being human, plus the ever inspiring K-Drama genre.

Mathew Costin plays the role of Mickey Marcus with both fierceness and vulnerability.

Mathew Alec Costin makes Mickey Marcus’ preference for conciliation in contrast to Ned’s loud-mouthed confrontation, endearing, which means seeing him broken by the cycle of perpetual bereavement all the more devastating.

Contrasting the more reserved nature of Bruce, Costin’s Mickey was loud and proud with quick witted flair throughout his performance. However, Costin did not shy from the depth of his character with a real sense of fear and hurt bursting through during a stress-ridden breakdown that contrasted his previous humorous nature.
