Zachary Miezio
Biography
Zachary Miezio is an award-winning conductor and composer, who is becoming an acclaimed upcoming musical presence in Australia. After graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium with a bachelor’s degree in composition, Zachary has continued to develop a flourishing and award-winning portfolio of music. Working across multiple mediums, such as film and television soundtracks, theatre productions, and classical works (including opera, chamber, and symphonic repertoire).
Concurrently, Zachary is rapidly gaining recognition as an emerging conductor in Australia. With a growing passion for collaborating with orchestras of all types, he is developing a distinctive and creative style on the podium. Pursuing a Master’s degree in Conducting at the Queensland Conservatorium, Zachary serves as Musical Director of Brisbane’s chamber orchestra, Orchestra Concertina, and acts as Interim Musical Director and Guest Conductor for the Brisbane Concert Orchestra. Zachary frequently works as an Assistant Conductor with Queensland Conservatorium Wind & Symphony Orchestras and has collaborated in workshops with the Christchurch and Queensland Symphony Orchestras.
Winning the 2022 Allan Lane Composition Award, Zachary continues to work as an independent and resident composer across multiple domains. As a 2023 resident composer at Church Street Studios, (Australia's premier autonomous film composer studio), his creative influence has extended to the realm of cinema now with a burgeoning filmography, Zachary's prowess has earned him consecutive 'Most Outstanding Soundtrack' awards from the Queensland College of Art in both 2021 and 2022.
Notable commissions include working with Screen Queensland, Queensland Youth Orchestra, Griffith Film School, Queensland College of Art, Kolperi Outback Filmmaking, and the Riverside Guitar Ensemble. Zachary has premiered works at the Adelaide Guitar Festival (2022), Australian Digital Concert Hall (2022), and the 2023 Brisbane Festival
