Assistant Director

Tomas is an emerging actor and theatre creator who is currently based in Brisbane, after growing up on the Mid-North Coast of NSW. Graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) from the Queensland University of Technology in 2023, Tom is beginning his career with multiple projects at Ad Astra.

Biography

Growing up in the small town of Bellingen, Tomas began his acting journey with after school drama classes, under the tutelage of Belinda LeMair at Young Actors Studio in Coffs Harbour on the Mid-North Coast of NSW. His experience in performance began through community theatre and hosting community events and charity fundraisers.

Throughout high school Tomas participated in many drama programs, including being selected for the NSW State Drama Camp and the NSW State Drama Ensemble twice, and starring in a REC’ YA Shorts award winning short film. After graduating in 2019 with a high distinction in Drama and a nomination for OnStage HSC Performance, Tomas began working more in screen – starring in short films for Academy of Film Theatre and Television and an internationally screened short for Sweet Chili Productions.

After being accepted into Queensland University of Technology’s acting program in 2021 Tomas has been taught by renowned actors and teachers, including Anna McGahan and Darren Gilshenan and been directed by professionals such as Bridget Boyle, Flynn Hall, Kate Wild and most recently Wesley Enoch in the graduating play Joan Must Die* (*I Never Liked Her Anyway) written by Daniel Evans.

While completing his studies Tom performed in multiple independent theatre productions including The Adventures of Peter Rabbit with Small Crown Productions and The Bluff with The Drawer Productions written by Ada Lukin, now co-host along side Tom of the podcast Small Cat Big Collar.

Now working with Ad Astra Tom is expanding his skills into theatre making, taking on roles as production assistant and assistant director.

“Led by Director Michelle Carey there’s a lot going on in this intense production. Toy Symphony explores bullying, substance abuse, death and grief. At times this play is uncomfortable to watch but it’s also a compelling look at creativity and human response.”

“Lively direction by Michelle Carey keeps us invested in the storytelling”

“It is fitting that the first production in the space is from one of the giants of Australian playwriting.  Michael Gow’s “Toy Symphony” reminds us that we should embrace creativity and difference with compassion and patience. And that there can be a little bit of magic in everyone!”
