Biography

Currently in her second year studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting at QUT, she most recently portrayed the role of Valerie in a production of Andrew Bovell’s Speaking in Tongues at The Loft. The production was a part of a collaborative project for Second Year Play Fest. She has recently had opportunities in other leading and supporting roles in both film and theatre such as ‘Abigail’ in the award winning indie film The Psychology of Beauty, the second instalment in the Colour Series films. In its festival run in the past year it has gained international recognition, winning Best Independent/Feature Film at; Cannes Indies Cinema Awards, International Manhattan Film Awards and the Boston Independent Film Awards. Notably, it has been a part of the official selection for the LA Independent Women Film Awards.

Early 2022, she worked on Spotlight Theatre’s production of PUFFS and Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of ⭐️ Magic and Magic ⭐️, in a total of six roles namely, ‘Susie Bones’, ‘Harry’ and ‘Myrtle’ (…yes the infamous dead bathroom chick).

Chelsea is extremely grateful for the exciting opportunities she has had and would like to thank all of her teachers that have dedicated time (and patience) to her training. She is very eager to be a part of such a wonderful group of creatives who are bringing Carol Churchill’s Top Girls to life and she can’t wait for audiences to see it in July!

Reviews

The entirety of the cast worked so well as a cohesive collective, it is difficult to describe their performances individually. Each were committed to their character, which had clearly been researched and developed into well-rounded and thought out personalities, and interacted with one another with the familiarity one would expect from members of a sports team. Each brought a powerful intensity, light and shade and above all, energy, to their performance. Each actor was faultless in their execution of dialogue and blocking contributing to the overall professionalism of the show.

"Chelsea Doran played Dull Gret and Angie with heart. Though she had few lines as Dull Gret, her physical embodiment of the character conveyed all that was required. As Angie, Doran’s intensity and fragility was endearing, yet there was a darkness brewing beneath. Her scenes were emotionally taxing and she drew the audience into her journey.”

“Standouts in the ensemble were Chelsea Doran, who played a beautifully satirical version of the titular wizard from the original franchise.”
