Angus Thorburn
Biography
Angus’ formal acting training began in 2016 at TAFE Queensland (in partnership with the University of Canberra). There, he spent three rigorous years practising theatre methods, studying plays and harnessing his physical, vocal and mental skills for the stage. He graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Acting & Performance.
Since graduating, Angus has been a proud member of the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble (QSE) for the last three years. He completed the Apprenticeship in 2019 and successfully joined the Core Ensemble in 2020. His performance credits with QSE include Hotspur in Henry IV Part 1 (2019), Banquo in Macbeth in the Dark (2020) and Benvolio and Paris in Romeo & Juliet (2021).
After TAFE, Angus also began to practise directing alongside his acting. In 2019, he successfully produced his directorial debut of Have I None by Edward Bond for the Anywhere Festival at Boggo Road Gaol; this was one of the first theatre performances to be held in that venue. In 2021, Angus directed his first Shakespeare production of As You Like It for Anywhere Theatre Festival. This was staged in the backyard of his house, with the support of QSE.
Angus is always excited to be on the stage telling stories and giving character insights to all types of audience members, and he eagerly awaits the next Ad Astra show.

Reviews
As the troubled teen, Alan Strang, Angus Thorburn was believable and sensual. He delivered lines with a naturalness that oozed inner torment and confusion. Thorburn was also erratic and wild-eyed as he tried to cover his secrets, and shut others out of his world.

Angus Thorburn gave an outstanding and consistently high-energy performance as Hotspur, passionate and erratic as he moved impatiently across the stage, gesticulating wildly in a way that began comically but took on a heavier threat as the work progressed.
