Actor

Ana Benham is a trained actor (Rose Bruford College,London) who has worked professionally across the UK and parts of Europe in theatre, film and voice. Memorable credits include Dorothy Hodgekin from The Nature of Things at The Pleasance Theatre in London and Katie from award-nominated short film ‘Hooked’, shot in the woods of Norway.

Biography

Growing up in country Queensland as the daughter of a hay-baler and a traveling physiotherapist, Ana’s introduction to the arts was not through watching films or the great plays here in Meanjin (Brisbane) but from hearing stories told by her grandparents, aunts, farmers and rural community she grew up with. Holding with her these rural roots, Ana traveled to London to study a Ba(Hons) Acting at Rose Bruford College (Gary Oldman, Lake Bell, Hailey Squires) where she began developing her acting technique, honed important skills such as accent work, stage combat and improvisation; and discovered her love of character, writing her undergraduate dissertation on how modern neuroscience can be used to develop an actor’s approach to character.

Professionally, Ana has had the privilege to work as an actor under the direction of Hanna Berrigan (The National Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Royal Court, Howard Barker’s The Wrestling School), Michael Corbidge (Royal Shakespeare Company Associate Voice Director), Kate Bramley (Hull Truck Theatre, York Theatre Royal) and Abigail Pickard-Price (The Watermill Theatre) and Martha Goddard (Film - The Bridge).

Reviews

"Anastasia Benham played Pope Joan and Mrs Kidd with gusto. Her portrayal of Pope Joan was enthusiastic and her monologue powerful. Benham brought a multi-layered performance as Pope Joan, skillfully balancing comedy and sincerity. As Mrs Kidd she was quiet and vapid but retained the same intensity. Benham portrayed the two completely different yet compelling characters with ease.”
